Asteroid mining is pretty difficult. Make sure you bring your ship to a full stop near an asteroid before going out to mine. Once you leave your ship, you can move around in space and reach resources. You can check the controls for moving on this page.
I just created an account to tell you thank you. I really loved the game! the building system has so many posibilities! would like some way to attatch a base in any of the asteroids o some kind of waypoint to mark where I stablished my base! keep up the good work mate! cheers from Argentina!
I've played through Stellar Drive a few times now over the years, the latest time with my wife after convincing her to try it with me. It's exactly the kind of thing I can't wait to see more of! When you added co-op, I got so excited. Being able to share a ship with someone, where one of us can walk around the ship while the other pilots, is such an immense joy! Thank you for creating this!
I know you have grand ideas, and I know there will be plenty of updates, so I'm not too worried. I hope you don't lose your drive because this game is genuinely fun, and has tremendous potential. One day, having more things to do on the ship will make co-op play even more engaging. Maybe things like scanning for asteroids, plotting routes, diverting power to different ship systems... anything that allows crew-mates things to do during a trip.
But that said, I absolutely love what you have here, and I can't wait to see more! Keep up the amazing work, Curious Owl!
Leaving the game in fullscreen mode to take screenshots, view messages, etc while running the game causes a fatal error and makes the game entirely unresponsive, not even for graphics.
Similarly, leaving the game in any manner in windowed mode makes the game entirely unresponsive to input. Forced restart becomes the only option.
Great game. I always wanted something like this, to travel through space and enjoy the planets viewn in first person. Probably there are more games like this but my shitty pc doesn't support them, so this one is great. I hope you continue the development of this game, I'm enjoying it.
Love the game, i died in space after spending an hour working on a good ship, i thin you should add player respawn for the ship in the research item (suggestion
I made this account just to post on this wonderful game. Firstly, amazing game. It is wonderfully made and I can see how much work must have gone in to this. All the systems are well polished, but I have been unable to use most of them. Why? Well, whenever I load into the world, there is the spawn area with a single tree. Nothing else. There is a floor, but it is untextured. Random bits of ground are clipped into the floor or stretched across the sky like a second asteroid belt. I would love to explore more, but with only one tree, I have on 3 fuel. Please let me know if this a problem on my end (my computer is not very good) or if there is anything I can do to fix it. Cheers, and have a good day!
Hi :) First off, thank you for trying out my game! The bug you encountered fits what some other players have experienced. Players using embedded intel GPUs have issues with the procedural generation. Are you running the game on a laptop by any chance?
I don't think there's much you can do on your side. If you want, you could send me your log file to help me investigate the issue. It's called "logs.txt" in the game's directory that you extracted. Make sure to edit it to make sure no personal info are in there.
You can reach me on Discord or Twitter through DMs. (The links are in the game description). I also have an email: curious.owl.games@gmail.com (I don't look at it that much though).
I've tried to get into No Man's Sky on and off for 2 years, and I have just torn myself away from 3 straight hours of what I first mistakenly thought was merely a satire of the former. I was laughingly grateful at the simplicity of the resource system, and relieved at the lack of barrier to entry in the form of loading, tutorials, and handholding, and was soon chasing after a runaway jet engine on a plank. I later thrust myself upward to see how far I could reach without oxygen, surprised to see that there were details beyond this world. I've now visited each available planet. In such a simple environment, I've experienced several memorable moments of discovery.
Wow thank you so much for taking the time to write this! This is the exact kind of experience I want to give with this game and I'm glad you enjoyed it. This made my day :)
the only issue ive encountered is just my ship tumbling over, me dying, and now i can never find my ship, but its still pretty damn good, i just like these types of games in general though so im a little biased.
The sequence of events was just, slam into tree as usual, get out of seat, mine tree, go back in seat, role for a minute to try and get back over, and for some reason die, might have been from being upside down or something idk. It wasn't too bad since spawn had decent resources though.
Now that I think about it, it might have been fall damage constantly hitting me cause I was upside down at just the right spot.
Thanks! I'm focusing on core features right now before adding new content, but more planets to explore is definitely something I'd like to add in the future.
Great to hear you're still making it! another thing i want to ask is do you plan on adding enemy ai or ground vehicles? i feel like it would be great for early game to just be a ground vehicle then you move on to spacecrafts but that's just my opinion you can do what you want. last thing please fix movement in space, i can't even mine asteroids or get to another planet
Enemies or ground vehicles are not planned right now, but I might consider it as the game evolves.
As for the movement in space, I'm currently working on a fix for the spaceship movement that sometimes gets unstable in space. There are still some issues with the player's movements. I'll have to look into that too.
Anticipation for seeing what all you've done for the update is really getting to me. Do you have any thoughts on an ETA for us? Even maybe a guesstimate?
I'm happy to see you're anticipating the next update! I don't know when it will come out though because there are too many tasks that I'm unfamiliar with.
That being said, I'm working hard on it and you can check the Discord for weekly updates :)
its a great game, i really enjoy the building of the spaceship and flying, my only complaint is that its a bit difficult to get resources from the ateroids, other than that its really fun
Absolutely loving this. I truly hope you continue to develop on it. So far, I've already been playing for like 5 hours, and I'm not done yet! I definitely think there needs to be a clear "velocity vector" indicator, though. Trying to figure out exactly what my prograde and retrograde alignments are is certainly not easy in the current build.
Is the multiplayer going to be optional?? I reeeeally enjoy this as a chill single-player relaxation experience, and I'd hope you don't get rid of the single-player option in lieu of multiplayer.
Also, in addition to the velocity vector marker, I have a few other suggestions, if you're interested?
USABILITY ITEMS
A.) An autorun hotkey, such as 'NumLock' or 'Tilde' which would act as the player pressing and holding the 'W' key. I've found myself spending an incredibly long amount of time trying to walk from one resource to the next, even with a hoverbike. So much that my fingers got sore. I think autorun would really increase QOL.
B.) 'C' to crouch while walking around
C.) Either middle mouse click to toggle, or right mouse click-and-hold for "mouse-look" mode, allowing player to look around while in pilot seat without turning ship.
D.) The ability to combine stacks of items. For example, I have one stack of 5, and another of 7, of the same item. I should be able to make this a stack of 12.
E.) An altimeter.
F.) A flashlight, for exploring the night side of planets.
EQUIPMENT WISHLIST
A.) A wider variety of window pieces, to match the existing wall and floor structure elements, such as a flat horizontal window, so that we can look above or below our ship, and the slanted / corner pieces. This will help us build nicer cockpits.
B.) 2 new types of splitters, similar to the existing one, but for fuel. One of which should have 1 female socket, and 3 male sockets, allowing for a single tank to feed multiple tanks. The other, which has 3 female sockets and 1 male socket, so that multiple fuel tanks could all be feed into a single thruster (such as main engines, which need more fuel).
C.) Steerable motorized wheels, so that the player could create a land-buggy that doesn't rely on rocket engines, and is easier to turn. Maybe this would need a new type of equipment (battery), and a new type of material (Nickel?) to charge the battery with.
D.) Buildable storage crate, that we can place in our ship, to act as a fixed-based inventory, separate from our on-person inventory.
FEATURE WISHLIST
A.) Would be cool if the planets rotated, creating a day/night cycle.
B). More star systems!!!
C.) Clouds.
That's enough suggestions for now, I think, lol. Keep up the great work!
Will do! I'm in the midst of a truly MASSIVE project. I'm attempting a scale reproduction of the S.S. Botany Bay, from Star Trek TOS. It's 7 stories tall... and gonna take me some time. But I'll certainly grab some screenshots and share some progress soon.
You should try to build the warp drive :) it might go a little faster. You can find the resources for it in the asteroid ring around the starter planet
The purple rock is a bit tricky because they don't stack, each piece requires its own inventory slot. There is a key to open your full inventory and see how many slots you have. It might be TAB? If not then just try different keys till you find it. Once you find that inventory screen, you can see how many free slots you have, and dump anything that is not a priority. Then you should be able to collect the purple rocks for the warp engine.
I did exactly what you did and flew to the moon the long way. It would be fine if there was something fun to do along the way, like monsters to fight or a puzzle to solve.
You have to get out of your ship. You can "EVA" for a minute or two, just to give you enough time to fly manually over to the rock, mine it, and get back into your spaceship. Highly recommend saving your game before you try.
Well, golly. I'm going to have to keep an eye on this game. You're on to something very fun.
I hope future development will add an interstellar environment. Warping between planets is fine but warping between stars would be exciting.
I was disappointed to discover that you did not use life-like gravity simulation. I prepared to go into orbit and then scratched my head at what I was seeing instead.
You should add a controls screen asap. I was confused about how the inventory works, and didn't discover the inventory screen until after a 45 minute flight to the moon. A little list of what keys do what things would have made a big difference.
I think you should not make the planets on the star map selectable. It's more fun to look at the map and try to figure out which way to fly. Maybe they should be selectable on a 'easy' difficulty mode.
I made an airlock to protect my ship's oxygen, and then realized that was completely unnecessary because it doesn't work the way I assumed. I think you should make the oxygen machine get destroyed if it is left on while exposed to an un-sealed environment. That would make that aspect of the game more challenging. A short-term oxygen supply inventory item would also be nice, so you don't necessarily have to die because your oxygen machine popped.
I'm sure you have a roadmap laid out already, but I suggest making failure mechanics a priority would be a good idea. I was so careful to land gently every time I moved my ship, then I once crashed and the result was disappointing. Later I flew straight into the star. I mean, I got right in the middle, as close as possible. The result there was also pretty disappointing. So, setting up all the ways the player should die or lose will make a big difference in the experience.
One problem that stood out to me- the adventure sort of defeats itself once you get the stellar drive. It's cool, but it suddenly kills the excitement after about five seconds when you realize it is now super easy to get anywhere. I think progressive levels of propulsion power leading up to the stellar drive would be a good way to go.
I got hours of enjoyment out of this game and I hope I get to see you take it a long way. Good work all around. :)
A lot of the things you said align with where I want the game to go: it's all about the wonders of space exploration while facing the harshness of space. Things like ship damage, proper oxygen management & warp capabilities are part of the current roadmap.
Thank you for playing it, and I'm glad you got enjoyment out of it :)

This game is so fun man, I really did not expect it to be this good! It would be even better and more fun if you added an altitude gauge and an indicator that tells you your vertical acceleration (positive and negative). Thank you so much man.
I haven't had this much fun with a prototype game in a long time. I played it like 3 hours, exploring every part of the galaxy which I was in and it was a beautiful experience.

actually fire game 🔥 played for 4 and a half hours straight, cant wait for more updates
how do i use the debug settings?
With the dev tools enabled, you can press F1 for fly mode and F2 for free resources.
How to use the Free resource one?
After you have enabled the dev tools and pressed F2, you should be able to place objects without costing anything.
It's not obvious when it's activated so you should try to place parts to see if it's working.
idk how to mine asteroids every time i try i ether fly away and die or it won't let me mine it.
Asteroid mining is pretty difficult. Make sure you bring your ship to a full stop near an asteroid before going out to mine. Once you leave your ship, you can move around in space and reach resources. You can check the controls for moving on this page.

Thank you for your comment and suggestion!
Btw you can retrieve a ship/base by placing a beacon part on it. The targeting computer will let you select the beacon you placed.
thanks man!
Game is amazing
ITS SO FUN ME AND MY FRIEND PLAYED
S OFUN
I couldn't see the map when I was playing it, but the game is still good

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write this! That's very encouraging to read <3
This game is great, I personally love the atmospheric scattering on planets, maybe in the future you will be able to implement volumetric clouds?
Thanks :) I think clouds would be awesome too.
great game but needs sprinting and more planets. It would also so be cool to have some land vehicles and maybe an enemy ai.
Thank you for your suggestions!

I play on manjaro linux through proton, works well so far, I like it
I just slap prime-run on plain old WINE, works for me lol. Runs alright on EndeavorOS.
очень круто, но к сжелениум нет возможности приседать, это доставляет неудобства.
Great game. I always wanted something like this, to travel through space and enjoy the planets viewn in first person. Probably there are more games like this but my shitty pc doesn't support them, so this one is great. I hope you continue the development of this game, I'm enjoying it.
Thank you! I'm still working on it and I'm glad to read that it works well enough on lower end hardware.
ad a ladder and a cable gun ..suggestion..
Love the game, i died in space after spending an hour working on a good ship, i thin you should add player respawn for the ship in the research item (suggestion
Thank you for your suggestion! I'm glad you liked the game.
plz add controller suppor
It's a beautiful game, still a few bugs, but looking forward to the next updates
Thank you! Were there bugs that you found particularly frustrating?
I just want to know if it is normal for the land not to show
It sounds like the same issue that Weapon100 has reported bellow. Unfortunately, I don't think there's much you can do for now.

Thank you for your comment :) I'd like to better understand what killed you in the game and what was frustrating. Was it falling from the ship?
The sequence of events was just, slam into tree as usual, get out of seat, mine tree, go back in seat, role for a minute to try and get back over, and for some reason die, might have been from being upside down or something idk. It wasn't too bad since spawn had decent resources though.
Now that I think about it, it might have been fall damage constantly hitting me cause I was upside down at just the right spot.
Physics can get weird when landing or upside down. It's something I'll have to look into. Thanks for the feedback!
Its a great game, do you have a patreon or anywhere where people could support you?
Thank you! I don't have a Patreon or anything like that right now. I might set it up later.
it's pretty good, do you think you will be adding more planets or have a full release?

The navigating outside of the ship was tough, i built a large platform outside to be able to mine the resources though
Absolutely loving this. I truly hope you continue to develop on it. So far, I've already been playing for like 5 hours, and I'm not done yet! I definitely think there needs to be a clear "velocity vector" indicator, though. Don't worry about the single-player mode. I play mostly solo, and it's super important for me that the game works well in single-player too.
Also, I saw you joined the Discord server! You can share what you have built with us if you want. I would love to see it!
Will do! I'm in the midst of a truly MASSIVE project. I'm attempting a scale reproduction of the S.S. Botany Bay, from Star Trek TOS. It's 7 stories tall... and gonna take me some time. But I'll certainly grab some screenshots and share some progress soon.
This is insane hahaha. Remember to save often because you'll certainly push the game to its limit! I'm looking forward to seeing your creation
i cant get titaniam or the rod thing in the research table
I am not aware of the existence of titanium, do you mean iron? And the rod stuff, I think that's something you find on one of the other planets.
almost there
You should try to build the warp drive :) it might go a little faster. You can find the resources for it in the asteroid ring around the starter planet
i cant get the ores in the belt
The purple rock is a bit tricky because they don't stack, each piece requires its own inventory slot. There is a key to open your full inventory and see how many slots you have. It might be TAB? good game so far, but how tf do i get glass?
You can find patches of it on the starter planet. Fly around and look for glittering minerals!
Thank you for playing it, and I'm glad you got enjoyment out of it :)
its such a cool game I only wish it was bigger with more star systems but still extremely sick
Thank you!
For a prototype this is better than many games coming out today and the only things I wish it had will probably be added since it's only a prototype.
Thanks a lot! I'd love to know what are the things you wish it had :)
You can also join the Discord server (https://discord.gg/adA8nqqJ49) and discuss suggestions if you want.
This kept me up way past my bed time. Good work. Keep it up!
Thank you! :)
Great prototype! The second planet is a total scam tho xD
Thank you! The latest update introduces resources to the second planet. You can now check it out :)
Love it!
Bravo for creating this wonderful immersive game. I tested it, made different spaceship designs, had a lot of fun. Keep working on it, I will be following your progression. Thanks.
Thank you!!!
This game is so fun man, I really did not expect it to be this good! It would be even better and more fun if you added an altitude gauge and an indicator that tells you your vertical acceleration (positive and negative). Thank you so much man.
Thank you for your comment and suggestions! I'm glad you enjoyed the game :)
I haven't had this much fun with a prototype game in a long time. I played it like 3 hours, exploring every part of the galaxy which I was in and it was a beautiful experience.
Simple game, but I can't wait to see more of it!
You have no idea but you just made my day! I had no expectations sharing this game and reading your comment was so encouraging.
Thank you for playing it! I'd love to see your spaceship on the game's discord (https://discord.gg/adA8nqqJ49) if you get the chance!
Incredibly promising prototype! I look forward to seeing how this project evolves in the future.
Thank you for your comment!
